Sam Moore Walton was born on March 29, 1918 in Kingfisher, Oklahoma. Sam Walton was born to Thomas Gibson Walton and Nancy Lee who were poor white working class farmers. In 1922, he and his family moved from Oklahoma to Orlando, Florida so his father could look for work. There they moved from one small town to another for several years. Sam became the youngest Eagle Scout in the history of Florida when he earned this honor while being in the 8th grade. After several years of moving around Florida, the Walton Family would finally settle in Columbia, Missouri.
Sam Walton held many jobs that would help support his family. He milked the family cow, bottled the surplus, and drove it to customers. Afterwards, he would deliver The Columbia Daily Tribune newspapers on a paper route. He also sold magazine subscriptions. After high school, he attended the University of Missouri. He continued to work odd jobs in exchange for food. In 1940, Sam graduated college with a Bachelor's of Economics degree.
Sam Walton is known for creating the biggest retailer in the world. Wal-mart has over 8,500 stores in 15 countries, under 55 different names. The company employees 2.2 million people making it one of the biggest employers in the world. In 2012, Wal-mart earned $447 billion dollars in sales.
Sam Walton has shaped American society by making his stores a house hold name. It is safe to suggest that everyone in America has heard of Wal-mart. His business model was "buy more, pay less" which helped families buy the items they needed at affordable prices. Sam also purchased goods from American vendors. This created jobs for factory workers which stimulated our economy.
I learned from Sam Walton's life that anyone can be successful if they are willing to look out for the best interests of others. Sam knew that he could be successful by providing families with goods at a low price. He treated his customers with respect. He supported various charities and looked after the people that worked for him.
Sam Walton was successful by following the HUNT method.

Over the years, Sam would benefit from the services of his father in law, brother in law and brother.
